The waters around the Canary islands are highly esteemed for the quality of its deep sea fishing. There are several boats available for this sport and can be found on the jetty in Puerto Calero, Puerto del Carmen, Playa Blanca and Caleta del Sebo ( on the island La Graciosa).

Canarian Lateen Sail

This is a sailing regatta for boats using lateen sails. This kind of sailing with small boats with lateen sails has a great following here in Lanzarote and Fuerteventura. The boats usually have a length of between 5 and 8.5 metres and the regatta is an olympic triangular kind.

Canarian Wresting

This is a sport where two people confront each other, starting from an initial position where the two contestants hold onto the shorts of each other. The aim of the game is to throw the opponent onto the ground without leaving the marked circle, using both their arms and legs.

Canarian Bowls

This is one of the oldest games on record and is mentioned in Ancient Egypt. In the Canary Islands , Lanzarote is the island with the greatest tradition for playing bowls and is famous for the quality of its players. The game consists of throwing a ball from the starting line and trying to get as close as possible to the jack. The winner is the team which has most balls close to the jack. Each player takes turn in playing, the team deciding who plays next.

Canarian Stick Fighting

This game goes back to the time when people first lived on Lanzarote and represents one of our purest and greatest traditions. The stick was used in everyday life as a work tool and for basic domestic use. It was used for guiding the herds, sowing, jumping over fences and streams or simply for walking. The game consisted of hitting your component and not being hit yourself, using good attack and defence tactics. A good player should have good reflexes, agility and strong arms and legs. Nowadays there are several schools of stick fighting in an attempt not to lose the sport.
