This is the main resort in Lanzarote, situated ten minutes from the international airport, in the centre of the east coast of the island. Puerto del Carmen has more than 6km of beaches and along the sea front there are lots of restaurants, shops and leisure services which together make this resort one of the most important on the island.
Puerto del Carmen has the greatest number of beds on the island, generally in apartments but there are also a few quality hotels. However, this resort has none of the stress of the capital, with all buildings being low, with no construction standing out above the others. This small fishing village in the south of Lanzarote has been transformed into one of the most important resorts over the last few years. Playa Blanca has several 4 and 5 star hotels as well as the modern Rubicón marina. Its seafront has become a hive of activity with shops, cafes and restaurants. To the south lies the island of Fuerteventura and the port which connects it to Lanzarote.
Playa Blanca is famous for the Papagayo beaches and the Los Ajaches Natural Park. The sea is crystal-clear and turquoise in colour thanks to the white sand found in this area.
Costa Teguise is situated a few kilometers from the capital of the island and has several beaches all different from each other. There are beaches ideal for windsurfing such as Las Cucharas, beaches for snorkelling such as El Jablillo or more sheltered beaches , ideal for families such as Playa Bastian.
Costa Teguise has a wide range of hotels and apartments as well as great leisure possibilities such as a golf course, aquarium and water park.
The Spanish Royal Family also have one of their official homes in Costa Teguise which was a present from the King of Jordan. This is known as La Mareta Residence and is where the President of the Spanish Government, José Luis Rodríguez Zapatero, has also spent his summer holidays.
Surrounded by beautiful nature and situated in the middle of the Atlantic, Puerto Calero is an ideal destination for all visitors. Apart from the marina, this complex includes a villa development, all of which have been inspired by traditional architecture from the island. Puerto Calero also has two hotels as well as a wide range of services both for sailors or the visitor who arrives by land, looking for leisure activities or alternatives for spending the day. Excursions by catamaran including lunch, a free bar and other activities on board, a submarine dive, diving courses, fishing trips, thalassotherapy centres with all kinds of beauty and health treatments are just a few of your options. The Canarian Museum of Cetaceans is also situated in Puerto Calero along with an art gallery, some of the best bars,cafes and restaurants and some excelent shops, all lining the sea front on the marina.
This small holiday development in the north of Lanzarote is famous for being naturalist or nudist. The complex includes a small shopping centre with a supermarket, a boutique, a beauty salon and a massage centre. There are also four restaurants, a doctor's surgery and a chemist's.
Although the number of places to stay has increased considerably over the last few years, El Charco Del Palo can still be classified as a quiet resort.
The coastline here is made up of steep lava rocks which have formed natural coves and pools where you can swim and dive, protected from the waves. There are no sandy beaches.
Caleta de Famara is a pretty fishing village with sandy streets, lying at the foot of an impressive cliff which rises over the sea. Here there are restaurants, supermarkets and a wide range of apartments to rent. Apart from the apartments in the village itself, there is a housing development known as Los Noruegos which has incredible views of the sea and mountains.
This is an excellent place to go surfing, kite surfing and hang gliding. The general atmosphere is a sporty one, created by the lifestyle of the people who come here to practice their favourite sports.
The sea can be rather treacherous, especially when the sea bed creates whirlpools. The swimmer should take care and not swim too far from the shore.
This resort is especially recommended for lovers of sport. There is an artificial beach, with easy access and calm waters, right next to Club La Santa (a sports complex) which is ideal for wind surfing. The rest of the beach is rocky with high waves, ideal for surfing. It is famous for El Quemao, a prestigious wave known by all lovers of this sport.
Club La Santa is an alternative kind of resort which offers accomodation with high quality sport installations for those who want a more active kind of holiday. It is possible to do 30 different sports. Club La Santa is a high performance centre for experienced athletes who come here to train for important competitions. In the village there are shops, restaurants and an original atmosphere created by the mixture of local fishermen and sports people, drawn to this special place.
